Hidden Costs of Running a CMS
Vitamin has a great article from Paul Boag on the 5 Hidden Costs of Running a CMS. I really enjoyed the read because I’ve played with a few CMS systems in the past (mainly Joomla and Drupal and I’m looking at Concrete5 right now) but have never really been satisfied. I know there are a lot of developers out there that get really specialized with their CMS of choice and do some amazing things, but I’ve always felt like I was hacking something or forcing it to do something it wasn’t designed to do. Anyway, if you’re a web developer contemplating a CMS for your next project you might want to give this a read before you dive right in. Some projects are perfect for a CMS and maybe even nearly impossible without one, but there are definitely a few issues to consider.
